Building Conversions

New builds make up a large proportion of the construction service we provide, however, they are not the only type of contracts that we have expertise in. We have worked on many conversions in the past and here are some recent examples.

Bamburgh

Project: The conversion of very old disused farm buildings into twelve dwellings at Budle Farm, Bamburgh, for sale to private buyers.
Employer: Blue Reef Developments
Tender Amount: £1,690,513
Contract Period: 12 Months

This is one of the largest conversion projects that we have been involved in, as a principal contractor. The site was an old farm and we were responsible for converting the old farm buildings on the site into 12 individual residential units.

Structurally, the project included selective demolition, partial underpinning, slapping of new windows and doors and extensive roof timber and floor joisting repairs.

As the properties had been sold privately, there were specific requirements for every unit according to each owner's individual taste. In order to meet these needs it was extremely important to work very closely with them. The Company's approach to customer service worked well here and we managed to successfully provide precisely what each owner expected.

Hawick

Project: Redevelopment of flats at Wellington Court, Hawick
Employer: Eildon Housing Association Ltd.
Tender Amount: £786,263
Contract Period: 12 Months

We were the main contractor involved in the radical internal and external transformation of this block of flats. The project was the redevelopment of 35 one person, one bedroom flats into 14 two person, one bedroom flats and 7 three person, two bedroom flats.

The internal lay-out of the building was altered by demolishing several internal walls, slapping openings in structural walls and incorporating existing external balcony walkways within the habitable areas by infilling above the balcony parapet walls. Rain screen cladding was fixed to extensive areas of the external elevations to remove an inherant problem of rain penetration.  Full height galvanised metal support frames for planters were fitted as an architectural feature.
