We were the main contractors involved in the construction of what has the potential to be classed as one of the most energy efficient homes in the UK today. This house takes advantage of the mixed Scottish weather and can generate its own electricity with the use of several solar panels and a small wind turbine, all fixed on to the roof. The renewable energy technology that we installed is so efficient that it allows the house to put any extra electricity that it generates into the national grid.
The use of renewable energy does not stop here as we equipped this house with pioneering 'green' technology. It is the first house in the UK to be fitted with an intelligent sunspace. This is an area in the house that helps to store the heat generated by the sun, just like a greenhouse, and then spreads this heat throughout the house. This will reduce the need to use the heating system, thus reducing the need to use additional energy.
The house is also extremely well insulated which helps to prevent any heat escaping, again reducing the need to use the heating system within the house and saving energy.
Rainwater is gathered in an underground tank and then pumped back to a storage tank in the attic, which is then used for flushing toilets. There is a backup for mains water in case of drought. |
